Today we are looking again to the Bifidobacterium genus of probiotics, but the time to the strain Bifidobacterium breve. Remember this family of good bacteria is extremely important for limiting the growth of bad bacteria found in the gut. These rod-shaped bacteria is unique in its ability to compete with other bacteria. Bifidobacterium breve can digest several different types of molecules. They are found within the gut and women’s vaginal walls, where it helps to inhibit overproduction of candida albicans (the main cause of vaginal yeast infections).
In medical studies, ailments such as antibiotic-associated diarrhea, allergies, gas, and irritable bowel syndrome have been linked to a patient’s shortage of the B breve bacteria. Introducing additional B breve to the diet, digestive-related illnesses and their associated discomfort may be discouraged or significantly reduced. In the digestive tract the main job of B breve is to ferment sugars, produce lactic and acetic acid. Not only can this type of bacteria breaks down sugars, starches, fiber, and carbohydrates, but also plant fibers that are not even considered digestible. B breve should be referred to as the “champion” of probiotic strains for its ability to aid digestion.
